Looks can be deceiving...I think Blue Jays are absolutely stunning. They look so innocent, but did you know that they are a bit obnoxious? They will sometimes steal eggs out of other bird's nests and eat them. They also make "hawk" noises to scare off their prey. Even their color is deceiving...their feathers are actually a brown pigment, but they have special cells that distort light and create an impression of blue. I guess the moral of the story is..."don't judge a book by it's cover"...they're so cute, though!
Being the daughter of an Air Force pilot, I grew up all over the world. We dove into the different cultures, and frequented galleries and museums everywhere we went. I was particularly drawn to the Impressionist painters, and how they painted everyday life scenes, capturing light and using color in expressive ways. In 1977 my family moved to Holland, where the breath-taking beauty was etched into my memories. The experiences I had all over Europe play an instrumental part in my current work. In 1989 I graduated with a BFA in Art Education from Baylor University, and taught art in the public school system in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for 11 years.
