When I decide on something to paint, I don't always have a reason before I paint it. Sometimes the reason is revealed after it is painted, as was in this case. I learned that the cardinal symbolizes life, hope, and restoration. My thoughts went straight to Houston and the victims of Hurricane Harvey. The cardinal is a great reminder, that even in the bleakest circumstances, there is always hope in Christ. "You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word". Psalm 119:114
So sad to see the devastation...praying for Houston. Half of the proceeds from sales of prints will go towards Gateway Crisis Relief (http://gatewaypeople.com/ministries/global/announcement/2017/08/25/crisis-relief-hurricane-harvey ) for Hurricane Harvey.
About Chris Brandley
Being the daughter of an Air Force pilot, I grew up all over the world. We dove into the different cultures, and frequented galleries and museums everywhere we went. I was particularly drawn to the Impressionist painters, and how they painted everyday life scenes, capturing light and using color in expressive ways. In 1977 my family moved to Holland, where the breath-taking beauty was etched into my memories. The experiences I had all over Europe play an instrumental part in my current work. In 1989 I graduated with a BFA in Art Education from Baylor University, and taught art in the public school system in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for 11 years.
